Four Pillars of Campus Safety
Patrols & Monitoring
The Campus Safety Office conducts round-the-clock patrols, with monitoring across the WUC building during operating hours.
Emergency Call Stations
Multiple emergency call stations are installed across the campus so any student, staff member, or visitor can summon immediate assistance.
Safety Education
Regular sessions cover self-defense, emergency sheltering, and disaster response. Every student and staff member receives an emergency contact card.
Emergency Drills
Routine drills cover natural disasters, fires, and chemical-spill scenarios — so every campus member knows the evacuation routes and shelter-in-place procedures.
Campus Fire Safety
The WUC campus fire safety reports provide an overview of the measures taken by the university to prevent fires, respond to emergencies, and educate the community about fire safety. The reports detail the maintenance status of fire safety equipment and systems on campus, including smoke detectors, fire alarms, and automatic sprinkler systems. Regular fire drills ensure that students and staff are familiar with emergency evacuation routes and procedures.
Each report emphasizes fire safety measures in classrooms and the clinic — for example, prohibiting open-flame devices in unsupervised spaces and strictly controlling the storage and use of flammable materials. The reports also include statistical data on any fire incidents that occurred in the past year, along with an analysis of their causes and the extent of damage, and outline corrective actions taken to prevent recurrence.
To enhance fire safety awareness, the university organises multiple fire safety lectures and training sessions, teaching basic fire prevention knowledge and escape skills to students and staff.
WUC Emergency Preparation Handbook
The WUC Campus Emergency Preparation Handbook is a comprehensive guide designed to ensure the safety and preparedness of students, faculty, and staff in the event of an emergency. It provides detailed procedures and protocols for a wide range of emergency situations, including natural disasters, medical emergencies, fires, and active-shooter incidents. The handbook outlines clear steps for evacuation, shelter-in-place, and lockdown procedures, so every member of the campus community knows how to respond appropriately.
The handbook emphasises the importance of personal preparedness, encouraging individuals to familiarise themselves with emergency exits, assembly points, and the locations of safety equipment such as fire extinguishers and first aid kits. It also provides guidelines on creating personal emergency kits and maintaining communication during a crisis.
The handbook includes contact information for campus emergency services, local law enforcement, and medical facilities so that help is readily accessible when needed. It underscores the importance of staying informed through the university’s alert system and social media channels.
